Two volumes complete - Volume One - [4], *v-*xii, v-xli, 530pp and Volume Two - [4], 531-1151pp, [25], contemporary calf, smooth backs divided into six panels by gilt rules, leather title label to second panel, volume number in gilt to fourth. Rubbed, chip to head of spine of volume one, some splitting to lower joint of volume two, joints of volume one repaired with Japanese paper, corners bumped and worn. Light water staining to additional engraved titles with heavier stain to bottom corner, plates and text are lightly browned and foxed, but tolerably so, Kkk7 cropped to fore-edge with loss of a couple of letters to each word, (folding) plate xxviii chipped and worn to top edge, small hole to 4B6 with loss of a couple of letters to catchword, nicks to top edge of 4B8 and 4C1, one plate bound out of sequence. With thirty-five plates (six folding) as called for. This was the "only professedly complete work on the plants of Scotland until 1821" (Henrey pg 158). A reissue of the first edition of 1777, with new printed title pages and the addition of *v-*xii* ('Some Account of the Author', written by Thomas Pennant). Despite the title, there is a section on the fauna of Scotland as well (again written by Pennant, who the author had accompanied on his second tour and voyage to the Hebrides in the summer of 1772, and at whose expense the work was published, see Mullens and Swann, 'A Bibliography of British Ornithology'), and includes five plates of birds.
