About this Item
A charmingly bound example of Victorian evangelical children's fiction. First published in 1874, this is one of many of British novelist and scientific writer Agnes Giberne's examples of Victorian evangelical fiction, relaying moral or religious themes to children. With the first of her children's stories published at age seventeen, she went on to produce at least 130 such works in her lifetime, along with writing on subjects including astronomy and insects. This edition dated as circa 1895 via Jisc, and featuring an illustrated frontispiece. With a ten page publisher's catalogue to the rear, and a 'Gipsy Hill Sunday School' prize bookplate to the front pastedown, dated 1901, awarding the work to Elsie Garrett. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Discolouration to back strip, with some shelf wear to spine head and tail. School prize bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound aside from title page, which is detached but present. Pages clean and age toned to perimeters due to paper type. Very Good. Seller Inventory # 789F30
