Organized around four thematic sections - "Memories," "Exchanges," "Records," and "Explorations" - and supplemented by documentation from the Chinese Language Program at the University of Nouakchott and a chronology of the Confucius Institute, the book presents a comprehensive picture of Chinese language education in Mauritania. In the "Memories" section, the vivid narratives of Chinese teachers "planting hope on the edge of the desert," the insightful observations of Mauritanian teachers on Chinese as "an emerging language," and the personal stories of students whose lives were changed by learning Chinese, together convey the warmth and depth of cross-cultural education. The "Exchanges" section brings together congratulatory letters, speeches, and addresses that document the close collaboration between the Chinese and Mauritanian governments, universities, and civil society - highlighting the unique value of educational diplomacy in fostering people-to-people connections. The "Records" section offers a detailed chronological account of every key milestone in the development of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nouakchott, reflecting the Institute's growth and the vibrant momentum of Sino-Mauritanian educational exchange. The "Explorations" section features a study on the historical trajectory and development strategies of Chinese language education in Mauritania, grounded in solid field research and data analysis, which provides theoretical support for the sustainable development of Chinese language instruction in the country. Additional studies on Mauritania's news and publishing industry, along with reflections by Mauritanian authors on reviving the Silk Road, further broaden the horizons of cultural exchange between China and Mauritania.
