Synopsis

It starts out with how to select the right gear for you, such as rod length and weight, fly reel weight, fly line, etc. Now that you have your equipment, you have to know how to put everything together. Now that your rod and reel are together, you'll have to put backing and fly line on it. Needing that information, we move to the chapter on knots and specifically, the basic ones you'll need to know - such as the Arbor Knot to tie backing onto your fly reel and the Albright Knot to tie fly line onto the backing. Since your rod and reel are set-up and filled with fly line, it is natural that you would be ready to learn how to cast. This chapter talks about a few basic casts you have to know and how to master them. After that is a discussion on the four basic types of flies and how to make a proper fly selection. Now it is onto the stream with a discussion of how to find productive water that is the most apt to hold trout and how to choose the best fly based on what you are seeing streamside. From there we talk about several fly fishing destinations in the U.S. that make great fly fishing trips. That is followed by a chapter on ethics while on the water. How to treat your fellow fly fisherpersons. So as you can see, this book walks you from the beginning to the end in a logical step-by-step sequence. About the Author
I grew up in Central Minnesota, where my parents own and operated a fishing resort. Once out of high school I tried a couple of semesters of college, only to quit halfway through the Spring term; I decided at that time that college wasn't for me. Then I decided to follow my father's previous occupation as an auto mechanic. I graduated from a two-year of vocational training course and worked as a mechanic. While in vocational training, I decided to join the National Guard where I eventually ended up working full-time for 32 years. So how does all of this relate to writing? In one of my leadership schools, the instructor, who was an English teacher at a juvenile detention center, presented writing to me in a whole new way - a way that started to develop my interest in working with words. Fast forward about 40 years and I now have over 20 books listed on Amazon for Kindle. All of my books with the exception of one children's book (One, Two, Three, Four . . . Today my wife and I live in Gold Canyon, AZ, where you'll find me happily sitting in my office typing away on my laptop as I work on my next book or ghostwriting project . . . that is if we are not traveling on a cruise ship - our new-found mode of travel.
