There Shall Be One Fold And One Shepherd. A Sermon On John X. 16 Preached. On Taking Possession Of The Living Of Bishop's Hull, Etc by Edward Everard. This sermon, preached to a country congregation, argues for unity among Christians and emphasizes the Church as a divinely constituted body with a hierarchical, ordained ministry. Everett traces the pattern from the Apostles to bishops, elders (presbyters), and deacons, asserting that the Church’s government must be orderly and rooted in the authority given by Christ and the Apostles. He discusses the necessity of unity, charity, and unity of faith to promote peace on earth, warns against schism, but advocates gentleness toward dissenters. Central themes include the call to public worship, the duties of pastors and the ordained ministry, and the spiritual aim of ensuring the Church remains one fold under one Shepherd. The sermon's historical-theological perspective champions orderly church government and unity within the Christian church.
