Bien que le diab�te de type 2 soit associ� � plusieurs autres facteurs de risque vasculaire de d�mence, le diab�te lui-m�me a �t� consid�r� comme un facteur de risque ind�pendant de d�ficience cognitive et de d�mence. Il s'agit d'une �tude d'observation prospective visant � �valuer les fonctions cognitives des patients diab�tiques trait�s avec diff�rentes classes d'hypoglyc�miants oraux, avec ou sans comorbidit�s, dans le service de consultation externe de l'h�pital central gouvernemental de Nilgiris et dans divers centres de sant� tertiaires de Coimbatore. 400 patients ont �t� s�lectionn�s, dont 325 remplissaient les crit�res d'inclusion et d'exclusion. La pr�sente �tude a montr� que les patients prenant des inhibiteurs de la dipeptidyl peptidase-4 en association avec la metformine pr�sentaient un meilleur score cognitif global que les patients prenant des inhibiteurs de l'alpha glucosidase, des thiazolidinediones ou des sulfonylur�es en association avec la metformine.
