About the Author
Jan Hanson is a nationally recognized food allergy educator, consultant, speaker and author with more than 25 years of experience. In 2001, she founded her consulting company, Educating For Food Allergies, LLC (EFFA). Jan is an advocate and assists in the development of 504 Plans and Individual Healthcare Plans, in writing school district food allergy policy, and in presenting workshops school personnel. Jan is also a former college administrator. She earned her B.A. in Psychology at Mount Holyoke College, and prior to her work as a food allergy educator, Jan earned her Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration from Boston College. As the Assistant Director of Residence at Simmons College, she lived on the residence campus and trained Resident Advisors, giving her invaluable experience interacting with college students on a daily basis. She wrote the book, Food Allergies: A Recipe For Success At School, published in 2012, which received national praise, including in The Washington Post. She has written numerous articles on food allergy management published in print and online magazines and newspapers throughout the U.S., and is utilized as an expert by radio and print journalists, including in the Miami Herald and Allergic Living Magazine. Jan presented at the 2016 National Food Allergy Research & Education Conference (FARE) in Orlando on Planning For College with Food Allergies, and at the first national FARE Conference in Chicago, in 2014. She presented at the 4th Annual Utah Food Allergy Conference in 2014, and served on two panels at the Food Allergy Bloggers Conference in Las Vegas in 2013, and in 2014. She spoke at the Visions of Community 2013 Conference sponsored by the Federation for Children with Special Needs in Boston. Jan serves on the Board of the New England Chapter of the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America. Ms. Hanson is the proud mother of two sons, who happen to have food allergies, and who graduated from college in 2009 and 2013.
