Food Security Under Climate Stress: The Impact of Climate Variability on Food and Nutrition Security in Ethiopia

In Food Security Under Climate Stress, Kidane Badeg Mirdeto explores how climate variability impacts food and nutrition security in Ethiopia, a nation highly vulnerable to environmental changes. Using a detailed analysis of climate data, food consumption, and child nutrition metrics, the study reveals critical trends in precipitation, temperature, and evapotranspiration. Higher elevations receive more rainfall but face greater temperature variability, while midland and agro-pastoralist regions fare better nutritionally than lowland areas. The findings highlight disparities in calorie intake and child malnutrition across ecological zones, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions like climate-smart agriculture to strengthen food systems and enhance resilience against climate stress.
