WineSmarts was created by Julie Tucker and Jennifer Elias, two enthusiastic wine lovers in San Francisco. Julie and Jennifer met over a glass of wine and developed the WineSmarts idea in a burst of Cabernet-induced creativity. Before starting SmartsCo, which publishes WineSmarts, Julie was a restaurant consultant and Jennifer directed TasteWine, a company providing entertaining winetastings for corporate events.
Edited by Ray Johnson, whose informal approach to wine is central to the classes he teaches at universities, wineries and corporations. He directs TasteWine, and judges at the San Francisco Chronicle and the West Coast Wine Competitions. He is also author of The Good Life Guide to Enjoying Wine.
