About the book >.>.> Footnotes in the Sand: Gulf in Transition, 1953-58 Book by Bernard BurrowsSir Bernard Burrows recounts his service in the mid-1950s as the first Foreign Service Officer to become Political Resident in the Persian Gulf. In that role, he was responsible for carrying out British Government policy towards the small Arab states on the Gulf?s western coast, including Kuwait. His account describes events during his tenure, among them the local repercussions of the Suez war, and draws on official records. The book also covers the geography and history of the region during years when the Gulf States were at different stages of change from desert shaikhdoms to oil-rich principalities. Burrows was positioned to observe this process at first hand. Together, the account of political events and the region?s development provides background to the crisis referred to in the book?s description. (LL).…
