Footprints in the Sand (Paperback or Softback)

Some lives are changed in a single moment. Others are rebuilt one quiet step at a time.

At seventeen, Aiden Govender lives for the wind.

Growing up on the breathtaking coastline of Safety Bay in Western Australia, kiteboarding is more than a sport. It is freedom, identity and the future he has always imagined. Then, in the space of a single afternoon, a devastating accident leaves him paralysed, forcing him to face a life he never expected and cannot accept.

Years later, Aiden has mastered the routines of survival, but survival is not the same as living. His days are measured by careful planning and the quiet grief of everything he has lost.

While family and friends encourage him to move forward, he remains trapped between the memory of the young man who once flew across the ocean and the person he struggles to recognise in the mirror.

Everything begins to change when he meets Isla. Gentle, perceptive and quietly determined, she sees beyond the wheelchair to the man Aiden has almost forgotten still exists. As trust slowly grows between them, he is forced to confront the fears that have shaped his life since the accident and the possibility that healing is not about reclaiming the life he lost, but finding the courage to embrace the life that still lies ahead.

Set against the stunning coastline of Western Australia, Footprints in the Sand is a deeply moving novel about love, resilience, family and the quiet strength required to begin again. It is a story about grief, identity, hope and the extraordinary courage it takes to rediscover yourself when everything you once believed has been swept away.

Heartbreaking, uplifting and profoundly human, Footprints in the Sand will resonate with anyone who has ever faced unexpected loss, questioned their future, or wondered whether happiness could still exist after life takes an unimaginable turn.
