Forces at Work

Humans live within the realm of Nature. Man and Woman are influenced by Nature through the air they breathe, the water they drink, and the food they eat. We are surrounded by a natural flow, a pulsing energy source, and an unstoppable force that we can all feel but cannot grasp.

History has shown that mankind has consistently sought to explain the enigma that is Nature. In Ancient Greek philosophy, four elements were proposed to explain the complexity of all matter - Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. These four elements were believed to help mankind make sense of the surrounding world, from the physical composition of an object to the emotion and soul within people.

This concept of the four fundamental elements runs deep in the fabric of global thought and culture. In European history, references to the four elements first appeared in the pre-Socratic times and persisted through the Middle Ages and into the Renaissance period. In Asia, references were found in ancient religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as in Chinese, Korean and Japanese cultures. I believe this historical pattern is more than a coincidence - there is a Higher Power at work here.

During my travel experiences, I have been fascinated by the wonder of Nature and inspired by the culture and beauty of different countries. Like Man and Woman, I sought to grasp the flow of Nature, but this time, through the lens of a camera.
In this book, I present my photos and vision in accordance with the four Greek elements. Through each element, I hope to showcase the magnificence of Nature and the ways humans harness Nature s powerful energy. Using the medium of photography, I visually reflect on our relationships with Nature and shed light on how we put Nature s Forces at Work.
