Original publisher's red cloth binding with gilt lettering on front. Dark brown lettering on beige (formerly red) spine. 6 1/4" x 9." 304 pages, complete. Thirty-two tinted illustrations (black-and-white colors on brown paper), complete. List of Illustrations in front. Pages are clean and intact except for light age toning throughout, small occasional marks or stains, and foxing and discoloration on first and last few pages in front and back. Covers are clean and intact but spine has faded to beige and there is fading along edges, light rubbing, a few small stains, and bumped corners. A Very Good copy. This the Volume XV issue of Fores's Sporting Notes & Sketches, a quarterly magazine. This magazine was published by the Fores family publishing firm founded by Samuel William Fores (1761-1838), an English publisher and printseller. Samuel became well-known for his Piccadilly print shop. His sons, George Thomas Fores (1806-1858) and Arthur Blucher Fores (1814-1883), continued the family business and focused on publishing sporting prints. The Foreses' company continued to operate for many decades thereafter. This issue includes many brief sketches and anecdotes relating to the world of hunting, sporting, and other forms of outdoor recreation. Also included is one sketch about California titled, "Californiana."
