pp. xv, (i), 345, (i). 159 lithographed plates [mostly plants but some showing logging, no hint of climate change anxiety there !]. Original cloth damp-stained at the fore-edge of the rear board not affecting the contents, rubbed along the edges, joints firm, and apart from occasional foxing [especially the title] and some twenty plates mottled at the edges, the contents clean and in good condition [ pencil sketch of a rural church pasted to the verso of the front free end-paper], signature of J. W. BARNICOAT on title. *John Wallis Barnicoat 1814-1905 - Born in Falmouth, Barnicoat was articled as a civil engineer before emmigrating to New Zealand as a cabin passenger on the Lord Auckland, which left Gravesend on 25 September 1841. In 1849, Barnicoat married Rebecca Lee Hodgson and they had seven children. He entered politics when the Provincial Government was established in 1853 and served in the Legislative Council from 1883 to 1902. The sketch of the church might relate to the Cathedral Church of St. Mary, diocese of Taranaki, New Plymouth. There are 3 pieces of ephemera that are loose in the book and headed with that church name. Seller Inventory # 64475
