He was a vetran of WW1 who had returned to become a prominent orthopedic surgeon in his home town of Illinois. She was a young nurse from a small town in Indiana. The consequences of their love affair are revealed in this collection of his letters to her over a span of nearly six years.
Ruth E. (Runyan) Dorman is a retired nurse. She is married with six children and eleven grandchildren. Ruth was born in 1940 in a maternity hospital in Kansas City, MO. Her mother, a young, unmarried woman, could not raise her as her own child because of the social attitudes of the time. Ruth’s father was a prominent doctor; a married man with two children. He was admired and respected by his peers and community. Ruth never knew him, meeting him only once when she was a small child. These are the letters her father wrote to her mother from 1938-1944. They tell the story of their love for each other, a love they had to keep concealed from everyone or their reputations and careers would be ruined.
