A total of 94 pages With this is an ORIGINAL sepia photo on litmus paper of the "Cantilever" principal with 3 Victorian men demonstrating its engineering aspect. This photo is a variant of one almost exactly published in the magazine article, except the sitters are different and we believe a Benjamin Baker original c1887, it has the bridge "specs" printed in the photo.AND there is also loosely inserted a bookmark or "promotion" card again showing the bridge details on one side and the bridge on the other. Complete magazine article For Fenruary 1890 and the bridge opened in March 1890. Quarto. Very Good. Note: There is on the original marbled endpapers an armorial bookplate of W.O.E. Meade-King and a signature in pencil on front page which looks like his own handwriting of *W.O.E. Meade-King who was involved with the construction of the Manchester ship canal-IRLAM division and wrote a paper on this which was presented to the Institute of Civil Engineers who awarded him both the George Stephenson medal and the Telford premium in the 1897 ? 1898 session. *His other works include Local Government and its relation to parish water supply and sewerage, presented in 1900. **NOTE+ : Wilhelm Westhoven (1842-1925) was William Arrol?s engineer in charge of the works on Inchgarvie. This account of the design and construction of the Forth Bridge is considered to be the definitive text on the bridge and it's engineering feats.
