Fortuna: The Apprentice, Volume 4 (The Twelve Systems Chronicles)

Lilian survived almost two years of her Trial by Ordeal, but it came at a cost.

With little more than a year remaining, she struggles with the aftermath of the deadly attacks she survived in Transgressions. The nightmares persist. Recovery proves more difficult than survival. Some scars will never fade.
Meanwhile, Bright Star is no longer a dream. Across the Twelve Systems, powerful cartels compete to shape the first voyage beyond known space in over two centuries. As the project gathers momentum, Lilian's extraordinary ability to uncover hidden patterns and connections continues to reveal dangers others cannot see.

Including one buried in her own past.

When a powerful warrior turns his attention toward her, long-forgotten memories begin to surface. What begins as a mystery soon uncovers secrets tied to her father's crimes, a murdered militia captain, and a conspiracy that should have died more than a decade ago.

Lucius Mercio has spent years protecting Serengeti from enemies both within and without. Ruthless, brilliant, and feared throughout the Twelve Systems, he has never hesitated to destroy those who threaten what is his.
And someone has threatened Lilian.

As old crimes rise from the grave and hidden enemies move against them, Lilian and Lucius must confront the past before it destroys the future.

Because in the Twelve Systems, some debts are never forgotten.
And some hunts end only in blood.
