41 plates in total, including 8 folding maps (some coloured), 32 black and white plates and a black and white frontispiece with heavily foxed tissue guard, xxii + 601pp, appendices, index. First and last leaves faintly foxed, and prior owner inscription on front free endpaper. Original blind stamped red cloth, spine sunned, lettered in gilt, head and tail of spine slightly abraded but a firm and sound copy with bright maps and illustrations. 20 x 13cm. First published in January 1897.
