Forwarding Freight by Motor Truck Express to Relieve Our Overburdened Railroads

This is the August 17, 1918 edition of Scientific American. It has a cover illustration of an express truck racing to deliver goods for the WWI war effort. In the background is a troop train, telephone wires and an aeroplane. The airplane is a biplane as were the fighter planes of the era. The was a tremendous demand for railroad freight and its was bottlenecked on the east coast. This composition highlights the then modern day happenings at the time.
