Foundation Mac Os X Web Development

Mac users are renowned for being creative people and for being at the forefront of innovative design. If you're looking for an inclusive guide to web development on the Mac platform, then this is the book for you.

Whether you're new to Mac OS X, just starting out in web development, or new to developing dynamic sites on the Mac platform, Foundation Mac OS X Web Development will have you creating web pages and hosting them on your Mac in no time.

Learn how to add dynamic content to pages using Perl and PHP, and how to drive your site content using the popular free database MySQL. As a Mac OS X user, you already have Apache―the powerful UNIX-based web server―at your fingertips and you'll become skilled at its configuration and maintenance elements. Using Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 and a bit of hand-coding, you'll also learn how to ensure your site looks good on the Windows platform, as well as in older browsers.

Phil Sherry is a self-taught web developer during the day in Liverpool, and a freelance web anarchist for the remaining hours of the day. With lingering bad memories of having to use dial-up connection for years, he still does his best to design sites for the lowest common denominator. That means lower resolutions too, as well as people with slower machines (let's not mention those poor Windows users). Working with Jake Smith, several rock gods have had their web presences greatly enhanced over the years, including Andy Rourke, the ex-bass player from The Smiths. Phil has previously worked on several friends of ED books, and also beta tested several key Adobe products. A self-confessed geek, Phil can usually be found in a room full of computers, surrounded by screens of ASCII.
