Foundations

Foundations is a structured introduction to music theory designed for self-learners and beginning musicians seeking a clear, practical understanding of how music works.

Rather than relying on memorization alone, this book focuses on building a solid conceptual framework, explaining not only what musical elements are, but why they function the way they do. Concepts are presented in a logical sequence that supports gradual skill development and long-term retention.

Topics include musical notation, rhythm, scales, intervals, key signatures, chords, and basic harmonic relationships. Each section is written in accessible language and reinforced through examples that connect theory to real-world playing and practice.

Foundations is intended to be used flexibly, either as a standalone learning resource or alongside private instruction. When paired with the companion workbook, readers can further reinforce concepts through guided exercises and applied practice.

This book is ideal for:
• Beginning musicians
• Self-directed learners
• Adult students returning to music
• Educators seeking a structured supplemental resource
