Foundations of Wireless and Electronics

Since Foundations of Wireless was first published in 1936 it has helped very many thousands making acquaintance with the principles of radio and electronics for the first time. Periodically it was revised to keep pace with new developments. Although in course of time the title became somewhat outdated, the book itself achieved such a reputation that the original title was retained for identification, with the addition of the word "Electronics" to reflect its developing character.

This tenth edition, like the previous ones, covers the whole basic theory, starting with a sound exposition of the elementary principles needed in all branches of electronics. No previous technical knowledge is assumed, and mathematics are used only where essential. hese fundamental chapters are again substantially as before.

The following chapters on applications have been brought completely up to date. Most references to valves have been removed, but sufficient of the basics has been left to provide an introduction to cathode-ray tubes and microwave tubes. Some information on senders has been omitted but more space has been devoted to modulation, including modern pulse methods. Accounts of up-to-date f.m. detectors have been added. Information on colour television has been expanded and now overs all the basic processes of transmission and reception. A new chapter on non-sinusoidal signal amplification has been introduced, and the chapter on computers has been updated.

All the circuit diagrams have been redrawn using the graphical symbols recommended by the B.S.I.

This new edition was prepared by S.W. Amos, who collaborated with M.G. Scroggie to ensure continuity of approach and style.
