The editors, Lang, Jenkins. And Waldhausen, were among the founders of The College of Medicine, The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of the Pennsylvania State University. C. Max Lang, DVM (IL '61) was the founding chair of the Department of Comparative Medicine and the first person to be appointed to the faculty (1966) by the founding Dean (George T. Harrell, MD); David E. Jenkins, Jr, MD (WRU '58) was the founding chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology and the second clinical faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine (1970); and John A. Waldhausen, MD (SLU '54) was the founding chair of Surgery (1969). During their tenure they concurrently served in other roles; Lang as Assistant Dean for Continuing Medical Education and Director of the Cancer Research Center, and Waldhausen as Interim Vice Provost and Dean of the College of Medicine.
