Four-terminal shunts are used as standards for current measurements up to 10 A, primarily to tie alternating-current measurements to direct-current measurements. The shunt is of the bifilar flat strip configuration, where self-inductance, skin effect, capacitance, dissipation factor, and eddy-current losses are considered. This allows the shunt to have calculable and predictable electrical properties, which is useful in a variety of electrical metrology applications.
