Jackson: McCowat-Mercer Press, 1963. First Thus. Octavo; xxi, 267pp. Illus at front. Illustrated dust jacket with $5.00 price intact; bound in sea-green cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Jacket chipped at spine ends and shallowly along edges. Front flap nearly separated and rear flap halfway so, but both still intact. Boards faded along edges, with bumping at spine ends. Light spotting to edges of textblock. Bookplate of Helen and Robert Moore on front pastedown, with ownership inscription of a Fred Y. Stollen in Sunnyside Station, Winchester, VA on verso of half title. Pages otherwise unmarked. Binding is sound. Part of the Monographs, Sources and Reprints in Southern History series. Nevins writes of the original 1914 edition: "Excellent memoirs by a Georgia farmer who rose to command of a regiment; much personal information on major battles in both theaters," and calls this 1963 reprint "An improved, annotated edition prepared by the leading authority on Civil War Soldiers."
