Hope and Renaissance on an Alien Planet
The alien known as the Teacher is missing and presumed dead after his spacecraft plunged into the fiery inferno of Prosperine's sun. Hickory is devastated by the tragic loss and has isolated herself in a small town in the far north of Australia.
A tiny flicker of hope that he might still be alive takes her back to the Corps for one last mission on the homeworld of Earth's greatest foe, the Bikashi. The truth she uncovers there ignites a fierce new purpose in her heart.
A desperate sprint across an alien landscape reveals both friends and foes. Innocent lives are at stake. It doesn't seem possible she can save them and succeed in her mission. The price of failure is Earth's freedom.
Fractured Prophecy is book four in the science fiction adventure thriller Prosperine featuring Hickory Lace of the Alien Corps.

Review
Hickory Lace, the badass, tough-talking heroine and spacecommander from the first three books in the series, is back again and in thisbook, things get a little more personal for her. Still devastated by the lossof her mentor, a man who she called 'The Teacher,' Hickory is thrown foranother loop when a life pod is discovered to have escaped from the Arc shipbefore it exploded. Hickory must investigate the pod with her fellow soldiersto discover the truth and what the future will hold for what's left of mankind.
This book does a great job of catching up the more casualreader right from the get-go. Everything you need to know about the world islaid out cleverly and with style, unlike some sci-fi series that tend to infodump all over you for the first five pages. I had a great experience readingthis. I loved Hickory and her combination of level-headed commander versus herinner struggle as a woman who has recently lost someone that she cared verydeeply for. I loved Jess and Gareth's characters and the way they complimentedHickory and helped her along on her journey.
The world building was fascinating and extensive. I love tosink my teeth into a great sci-fi book with a well written universe and thisreally fit the bill. McDermott's universe is so creative and well thought out.The basis in Christianity and religion was very interesting and not somethingI've ever seen in sci-fi before. This book reminded me why I love this genreand how excited I get when I find a great new sci-fi series. 5 out of 5 stars! Mythical Books, guest review by Nora S.
An epic sci-fi adventure that pits a small faction of humanity against the overwhelming force of an alien government.
Hickory Lace is a commander in the Alien Corps, the intergalactic agency that acts as somewhat of a United Nations of the universe. At the beginning of the novel, Hickory is deep in the clutches of a depression that resulted from the loss of several people close to her, including her mentor, a man that she called 'The Teacher.'
Despite her love for her career (and all that she has given up for it), Hickory is unsure if she wants to continue on working for the Alien Corps after the heartbreak that she has endured. However, she is called back into action when her father, the Admiral informs her that an escape pod from The Teacher's ship has been found on a nearby planet.
Hickory is not sure what the escape pod might contain, but she, her crew and an alien guide are sent to retrieve the pod before the opposing alien government of the Bikashi Empire can get their hands on it.
I really enjoyed this novel. I appreciated the gravity of Hickory's perspective throughout everything. Having suffered greatly in the Corps in the previous novels, she is understandably reluctant to go on another mission with them. I really felt her grief and shock as a woman and as a human. I love how strong and capable she is, while still being witty, funny and occasionally tender. The entire cast of characters is compelling and well-written and the world building is fantastic. Such an expansive and intricate world has been created in these pages, if you're reading this review; you should know it would be a shame to miss out!
Five stars and I can't wait to read more in this series!
