Synopsis
"The Fragile Web: Climate Change, Biodiversity, Ecosystem Health and Sustainability" traces the invisible threads that bind human survival to the living fabric of the planet. As climate change accelerates, species disappear and ecosystems fray, with cascading effects on water, food, disease patterns and livelihoods that reach from remote forests and coral reefs into the heart of the cities. The book shows how biodiversity underpins clean air and water, fertile soils, pollination, climate regulation and cultural well being and why the erosion of these life-support systems is as grave a threat as climate change itself. Moving across from microbes and pollinators to megafauna and human communities, the book unpacks the "climate-biodiversity-health nexus," revealing how disrupted landscapes foster emerging infectious diseases, intensify extreme events and deepen social inequities. The book offers a lucid, interdisciplinary guide to navigating the Anthropocene which is useful for researchers, students, practitioners and concerned citizens. The book reiterates to consider climate action, biodiversity conservation and human well-being not as competing priorities but as mutually reinforcing strands of a single, delicate pall and to reimagine sustainability as the urgent work of mending and strengthening before more of it unravels beyond repair.
