About this Item
Third edition (so stated) on title page. Pamphlet, disbound. Small 8vo, 32 pp. including rear blank, hence complete and no half-title called for. Good condition, title page a little browned around the edges. Concerns two young men who journey to London to procure medicine for their ailing mother. While the story appears to be a cautionary tale about quackery, it is, in fact, according to the BM catalogue (now BLC) a "satire on the election of the Duke of Newcastle to the Chancellorship of Cambridge University." This took place in 1748. Thomas Holles Pelham, Duke of Newcastle, was a wealthy British statesman. Stebbing was Chaplain to George II. Seller Inventory # 2643
