The Fragrant Path: A Book About Sweet Scented Flowers and Leaves

The Fragrant Path is a delightful guide to the cultivation of scented flowers. Newly revised to include modern flower varieties, it contains the most complete description of scented flowers and leaves available. The Fragrant Path is for those who love both to garden and to read about gardening. Author Louise Beebe Wilder leads the flower lover through the process of mixing flowers and fragrances to create "olfactory paintings." Wilder's status as a master gardener and her abiding love for all things fragrant imbue The Fragrant Path with a comforting authority and a tolerant wisdom. Even the plants of "evil odour" are given their due and explored with a forgiving fascination.
The late Louise Beebe Wilder is that rare figure, a garden writer from another era whose books continue to be published because of their charm, inspirational prose, and wealth of horticultural knowledge. A visitor to gardens in many countries, director of the New York Botanical Garden and honoree for lifetime achievement by the Garden Club of America, Mrs. Wilder is the ideal guide for a tour through the ancient art of fragrant gardening.

The revised edition of the Louise Beebe Wilder's 1932 classic, The Fragrant Path: A Book About Sweet Scented Flowers and Leaves, due out in May from Hartley & Marks (P.O. Box 147, Point Roberts, Wash. 98281), is updated to include modern flower varieties and gardening techniques. The essence of the volume remains Wilder's personal reflections and her expressed delight in the "precious kind of charm" provided by "a garden full of sweet odours." Illustrated with b&w woodcuts.
