About the Author

Patrick Boucheron is a French historian. He previously taught medieval history at the �cole normale sup�rieure and the University of Paris, and is currently a professor of history at the Coll�ge de France. St�phane Gerson is a cultural historian and a professor of French studies and history at New York University. He has won several awards, including the Jacques Barzun Prize in Cultural History and the Laurence Wylie Prize in French Cultural Studies. He lives in Manhattan and Woodstock, New York, with his family.
