Francisco Mouse: Treason Below Decks (Paperback or Softback)

Captured by a press gang, entangled in French espionage, betrayed and abandoned.

Francisco Mouse's quiet life in eighteenth-century Hampstead Heath is thrown into upheaval when he leaves home to find his way in the world. As he travels through London, he is captured by a press gang along with the brawny, steadfast mouse Curmudgeon.

Forced into the service of the British Navy aboard HMS Goliath, Francisco discovers treason amongst rats who control the lower deck and forms a plan to defeat the plot to destroy the British navy.

In Gibraltar, Francisco faces the brilliant French spy, Jacques Tremblant. But things do not go according to plan. As Francisco suffers in captivity, the Goliath sails with Admiral Nelson's Vanguard to confront the French fleet at the Battle of the Nile.

Victory or disaster hang in the balance!

"Never judge one by size or apparent abilities. Those whom you least expect of greatness may make others around them great!"

Douglas McDonald has post-graduate degrees in science and business and has spent a lifetime as a trusted advisor to business leaders. He has visited more than forty countries, lived in London, and travelled widely across the UK.

Douglas created Francisco and Curmudgeon and told stories involving them as an alternative to reading chapter books to his children more than twenty years ago. A simple story, in a darkened room before bed, always with a hook, some drama, and a bit of history, seemed to hit the mark. As a lifelong reader of history and historical fiction, he believes that a good story, based on fact, can inspire curiosity and bravery, and help children realize their potential to do great things and contribute to a better world.

Travel is now the main preoccupation of Douglas and his wife, with trips to many regions planned out for years to come, often with golf or skiing in mind. They live in Toronto with their Bernedoodle, Rocky and have four children and two grandchildren, so far!
