This is the first comprehensive monograph on French artist Fran�ois Ristori (1936–2015), a lesser-known artist of the French postwar abstraction generation. He was known for employing a systematic motif of blue, red and white hexagon-like shapes he named "Trace-Forme" across painting, drawing and public interventions.

Fran�ois Ristori (1936-2015), peu connu du grand public, appartient pourtant � une g�n�ration d'artistes, qui, dans les ann�es 1960, menaient des recherches radicales en questionnant la peinture. Au d�but de ces ann�es, Fran�ois Ristori produisait une peinture � l'huile gestuelle qualifi�e par lui-m�me de � post-automatique �. Tr�s vite apparaissent dans ses recherches de grandes taches couvrant toute la surface de la toile. Fin 1967, il met en place un travail rigoureux qu'il appliquera durant toute sa carri�re. Sa pratique, proche des propositions de BMTP (Buren, Mosset, Toroni, Parmentier) et de Claude Rutault, se caract�rise par une mise � distance de toute subjectivit� et la mise en place d'un protocole. Ainsi, son gabarit hexagonal est transform� selon des r�gles pr�cises pour devenir des traces-formes imbriqu�e, toutes l�g�rement diff�rentes. Les couleurs s'encha�nent, bleu, rouge, blanc, dans un ordre choisi par l'artiste et variant selon les tableaux. Ce travail sans effet ni affect, quasi m�canique, met le regard � l'�preuve.
