""Franz Anton Mesmer"" is a biography written by R. B. Ince that delves into the life and work of the Austrian physician Franz Anton Mesmer. Mesmer is known for his development of a theory called animal magnetism, which posited that there was a magnetic force that flowed through all living things and could be manipulated for therapeutic purposes. The book explores Mesmer's early life and education, his medical practice, and his eventual rise to prominence as a healer and public figure. It also examines the controversy surrounding Mesmer's theories and practices, including his use of hypnotism and his supposed ability to cure illnesses through touch alone.
