This historical true crime investigation returns to the Santa Rosa Hitchhiker Murders, a series of unsolved killings and disappearances that unfolded across Sonoma County in the early 1970s. The victims vanished while moving through familiar routines—leaving an ice arena, traveling to college, trying to reach home, or hitchhiking along Northern California roads. Their remains were later recovered from embankments, creek beds, and rural margins, but the places where control was established and death occurred remained missing from the public record.
Franz Valley Road reconstructs the case from the human center outward. It follows Maureen Sterling, Yvonne Weber, Kim Allen, Lori Kursa, Carolyn Davis, Theresa Walsh, Jeannette Kamahele, and the still-unidentified Sonoma County Jane Doe while keeping essential distinctions visible: identified homicide victims, a presumed linked missing woman whose remains have never been recovered, an unidentified victim whose place in the pattern remains uncertain, and an earlier disappearance that cannot responsibly be treated as confirmed.
The investigation examines the transfer points where ordinary travel became vulnerability, the witness accounts that shaped the search, and the geography connecting Guerneville Road, Franz Valley Road, Calistoga Road, Enterprise Road, and Mark West Creek. Repeated disposal areas suggest familiarity and pattern, yet they do not reveal the missing middle: where the victims were taken, held, assaulted, or killed. That absent crime scene becomes the central question running through the book.

It is atmospheric without becoming sensational and precise about what is known, what is disputed, and what the record still cannot prove.
