Ottawa, Canada. Nature Canada. [n. d. but ca. 1972]. Quarto (11 x 9). 12 pp. Color photos and maps. Black and white photos. The Moran dam was a project proposed by the British Columbia Energy Board. A comprehensive study was made by the technical staffs of Canada Department of the Environment, Fisheries Services, and the International Pacific Salmon Fisheries Commission to study the impact of the dam on the Fraser River salmon runs. Their reports were issued in August 1971 and they warned of the near elimination of anadromous fish runs if the dam project went forward. At the time, Haig-Brown was serving as a member on the International Pacific Salmon Fisheries Commission and he became intensely interested and concerned about the proposed main-stem dam on the Fraser. Haig-Brown's essay opposing the dam's construction first appeared in Nature Canada magazine in 1972. This stand alone publication was published about the same time and it's quite scarce, with just one example found in WorldCat. Roderick Haig-Brown's impassioned plea to prevent the construction of the dam was successful; however, he viewed the victory cautiously and believed the dam proponents would try again. Nevertheless, Haig-Brown's forceful condemnation compelled the B. C. Energy Board to withdraw its construction proposal. The monograph is bound in white printed wrappers with black titles. In fine condition.
