An issue of Daniel Burros' independent National Socialist newspaper, which he likely named after the sub-title of the German-American Bund's newspaper Der Deutsche Weckruf und Beobachter. After Burros quit the American Nazi Party in 1961 he returned to New York City where he and John Patler produced a small format magazine called Kill! and formed the short-lived American National Party. Burros then joined James Madole's National Renaissance Party before becoming an Odinist under the influence of James Warner and finally gravitating toward the Ku Klux Klan where he became the New York State Grand Dragon. Burros' first periodical after the dissolution of Kill was the International Nazi Fascist followed by The Free American. When New York Times journalist John McCandlish Phillips revealed Burros' identity as a Jew he killed himself in the home of Roy Frankhouser, age 28. Fellow Times journalists A. M. Rosenthal and Arther Gelb quickly wrote the only biography of Burros, which Phillips refused to help write. This issue of The Free American features an illustration of Burros to the front cover an article by another Jewish neo-Nazi, Robert Burros titled, "Racial Nationalism Is Western Patriotism," an article on the swastika throughout antiquity, NSRP leader William Hoff "Profiles in Carnage" an article presumably by Burros on racial lynchings as "True Americanism" including a photograph of the burned body of Omaha lynching victim, Will Brown The rear page includes Free American's editorial policy and adverts for various National Socialist and far right groups. Tabloid format printed in black on newsprint, 12 pp., illus. Stain along the top edge, wear along the fold, but a very good copy of an extremely scarce title. Seller Inventory # 14324
