Alarms are being sounded around the globe over the increasing commercialization of public knowledge for private profit. Whether you are a farmer, a university student, a medical patient, or a library user, these developments impact your daily life. Knowledge privatization holds growing sway over the choice of the foods you eat, the medicine you take, the software you use, the music you hear, and even the flowers you plant in your own backyard. This is the result of a world where plant seeds have become subject to patents, medical research has migrated into the domain of pharmaceutical giants, universities are beholden to corporate funders, and Indigenous knowledge is expropriated.
The good news is that people are fighting back, working to create spaces where humanity’s knowledge can be reclaimed and shared for the public good and for the environment. Composed of fifteen essays from seventen writers--ranging from academics to farmers to indigenous knowledge keepers, Free Knowledge is more than a scholarly collection; it is a book on the front lines in the shared global project of creating and protecting our Knowledge Commons.

Terms of sale
We are thrilled that you have considered buying from us. The book that we sell you will be complete, and exactly what you would anticipate from its price.
**As we have recently greatly increased our offerings on Abe, you will find some incomplete cards. Please use the price as the clearest indicator of the quality and state of the book. **
We are as much at the mercies of global pandemic, climate crises, and other supply chain issues, so please do be patient with us.
Shipping terms
Our rates are based on the cost of the shipping, predominantly through the Canadian Postal Service. The estimate is based on the book you order being part of the majority of our stock, which are standard commercial hardcovers. In the case that a book weighs less than the estimated amount, we will reduce the price of shipping once we have an accurate amount. Conversely, should a book cost more, you may hear from us about an increase in shipping cost. This is rare, but mostly has to do with oversized books. If you ever have any questions, do please contact us.
The book you receive will arrive in re-used packaging from publishers, and will not include insurance. If you wish to add insurance please contact us.
