Raised between Enfield, CT and Jackman, ME and traveling around the globe, Kate s smorgasbord of life experiences is reflected in her eclectic combination of spices throughout her cookbooks. Kate worked and ran restaurants, catering events and private parties to put herself through colleges. A self-trained chef, Kate hostesses annual Solstice Parties, with 2013 marking her 25th year of creating culinary adventures for friends on the longest night of the year. She holds an ABA from USM and a BA in Communications and Business from Northeastern University. In 2010, Kate founded non-profit Youth Entrepreneurship Adventures. Her main program, Build A Biz , is an online youth entrepreneur education for youth 5-18. Between writing cookbooks Kate demonstrates wild game recipes, cooking Maine inspired dishes from Milwaukee, WI to Perry, Maine, Portland and down to Boston and beyond. She has appeared on Portland s 207 "In the Kitchen" with Rob Caldwell, the Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern," and Boston show how2heroes.com. Kate was an online food columnist for Dancing Spoon magazine and has also participated in Maine events benefitting and supporting local farmers, fair trade and food and wine Kate lives with her husband, Don, in Falmouth with their two rescue kitties, Edgar and MoeJo. She still manages time for kayaking, fishing, dancing, hiking, friends and family, travel and a good book. She also founded and runs a non-profit organization teaching youth 5-18 how to start and run a business; Youth Entrepreneurship Adventures. Kate has written 4 books in the Black Fly Stew Series: Wild Maine Recipes, Simple Gourmet Lamb with Side Dishes and Wine Pairings, 50 Ways to Eat a Beaver and Free Range Fish & Lobster along with two private labeled cookbooks.
