5 1/2 inches x 8 1/2 in., engraved title-page with a standing, emblematic figure, designed and engraved by G. Fairman; engraved title-page for The Port-Folio Vol. 6 Phildelphia. Published by Bradford & Inskeep, Inskeep & Bradford New York 1811, with an emblematic figure (Edwin, sc.), in this copy; "Prospectus and Preface" 4 pp. wood-engraving of a male figure (Fairman, D. & Anderson, sc.), this is repeated as a head-piece at the beginning of each month, with a wood-engraving of a female figure, also used ocassionally (p. 209, General Miscellany), 478 pp. + (2)pp. index. Illustrated with five plates, which all show considerable tanning or fading: at page 134: W. Ball R.W.G.P.M. From a sketch by Strickland [-] Phila [-] (very faded and browned); p. 185: Leucippe & her Babe [-], (foxing, and a lower marginal tear); p. 295: Catherine II. Empress of Russia D. Edwin, Sculpt., (tanning); p. 392: "The sisters sail in dusky state, / And, wrapt in clouds in tempests tost, / Weave the airy web of fate." (emblematic scene), J. Akin Sc. (tanning); p. 468: Radnor Church with Gen'l. Wayne's Monument, Strickland del. Fiebout sc. (tanning). Old calf. The leather spine shows cracking and wear to the leather, as do the cover edges and corners, the front cover hinge is cracked and partly detached, and the back cover hinge is weak. Tanning, and foxing is present, with a few page corners chipped off (pp.278-280), wear to the engraved title-pages. Scarce item. Vol. 1; April-September, 1811.
