Unlock French Naturally through the Power of Familiar Narrative
The most effective way to learn a language is to connect the unknown to the known. This book applies the timeless principle of the Rosetta Stone to your French studies. By placing a literal English translation directly beneath the original French text, we remove the constant need for a dictionary. This format allows you to read fluently and understand clearly from the very first page.
Experience the Greatest Stories Ever ToldThis collection guides you through twenty-one of the most influential narratives in history. By using stories you already know, your brain can focus on the patterns of the language rather than the details of the plot. Every page is designed to build your confidence and your vocabulary.
Witness the dawn of time in The Creation and the survival of humanity in The Great Flood. Follow the dramatic betrayal of Joseph into Egypt and the divine calling of Moses at the Burning Bush. You will walk through the courage of David and Goliath along with the survival of Daniel in the Lions’ Den. The collection also features the life-changing Sermon on the Mount and the first miracle at the Wedding at Cana. From the raising of Lazarus to the mystery of the Empty Tomb, these stories provide a rich and engaging landscape for your studies.
The Literal Translation MethodStandard bilingual books often rearrange words to make the English sound natural. We do the opposite to reveal the internal logic of the French language. Our translations are strictly literal and preserve the original word order. This approach allows you to see exactly how French constructs meaning and helps you internalize the syntax naturally.
Build a Memory BridgeWe prioritize English cognates to help you progress faster. By choosing English words that share a common root with the French, we create a mental bridge that makes vocabulary easy to remember. This method allows you to absorb grammar and structure through direct exposure and repetition.
Classic Art and Deep InsightsEach story is accompanied by the legendary engravings of Gustave Doré. These classic illustrations provide a visual context that makes your reading experience both beautiful and immersive. Every chapter concludes with an epilogue that provides linguistic context and historical perspective.
Inside this Volume:- Twenty-one curated stories from the Old and New Testaments.
- Strict literal translations to reveal French word order.
- Authentic French text paired with clear English.
- Iconic Gustave Doré engravings to aid comprehension.
- Detailed epilogues for linguistic and historical context.
- A quick reference guide for common verbs and phrases.
Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your fluency, this book provides a permanent scaffold for your progress. Stop translating in your head and start thinking in French.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
