My Friend Maigret

Vintage Penguin. #1419. My Friend Maigret is one of Simenon’s sunlit, deceptively relaxed investigations, here in its Penguin edition. When a man on the island of Porquerolles is murdered after boasting of his friendship with Maigret, the inspector travels south accompanied by a keen young Scotland Yard observer. The Mediterranean setting brings a different rhythm to the inquiry, but beneath the heat and easy charm lie jealousy, petty crime and a past that refuses to stay quiet. Simenon contrasts Maigret’s steady intuition with the outsider’s analytical note-taking, producing a case that is both atmospheric and quietly revealing of character.
