Hardcover bound edition containing indexed and consecutive issues of the Quaker weekly publication "The Friend", published out of Philadelphia, starting with the very first issue. This is volume I (1) and contains all of the issues from October 13, 1827 (vol. I no. 1) to October 11, 1828 (vol. I no. 52). All text pages are good though paper shows moderate to heavy foxing. Exterior binding is rough and front board missing as well as several of the free end pages being detached. The rear board is hanging on only by one piece of binder's string. Good candidate for rebinding or reference purposes. Original owner's names are present on front (loose) end page.
