Synopsis
This true story is about equine therapy that helps children on the autism spectrum develop motor skills, communication skills, and increases their self-esteem.
Sam has learned, with the help of the horses Blondie, Blue, Missy and Buddy, to ask for things when he has needs. Sam didn't know he could ask for a glass of water when he was thirsty or help when he needed it. When Mrs. Cathy shows him how to ask the horse to trot and see that the horse responds, Sam learned that he could ask for things and was going to have a desired response.
He also learns how to properly hold the rope connected to the horse's reins so as not to injure him and to maintain control.
About the Author
This project was inspired by my son’s autism. In 2006, my wife and I were blessed with the birth of our son Sam. In 2009, we decided to consult to find out what was going on. We tried speech therapy, we went for hearing tests and finally we went to the pediatrist to find out that it was autism. In 2010, Sam was admitted into a specialised center in Dieppe, New Brunswick called Hebert Centre. There they helped our son learn what is the basics for us. Then in 2011, Sam started Kindergarden and WoW, we were amazed about the good reports we were getting. In July of 2012, I’ve decided to create art and give a part of the proceeds to Autism Canada. Although the sales were doing great, that was not enough to spread autism awareness which prompted me to create a book series that would present autism to kids and help them be more aware of autism.
