The three volume fourth edition of poet and literary critic Samuel Taylor Coleridge's short running periodical. Running for only twenty-five issues in 1809, Coleridge's weekly publication was written, edited, and published almost entirely single-handedly.'The Friend' was an eclectic publication that drew upon every corner of Coleridge's remarkably diverse knowledge of law, philosophy, morals, politics, history, and literary criticism. With the blind stamp of the Birkbeck College Library to the tail of each front free endpaper and title page, and ink inscriptions to each front pastedown. With a twenty page publisher's catalogue to the rear of volume I. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Bumping to back strip heads and tails, with fading to spines. Spine labels age toned, with losses and significant rubbing. Joint heads and tails starting, but firmly held. Inscriptions to front pastedowns. Blind stamps to front free endpaper and title pages. Pages clean and bright. Good.
