About this Item
A smartly bound set of these intriguing discussions on morality by Sir Arthur Helps. In an attractive uniform prize binding, bound by Bickers and Son. Sir Arthur Helps was an English writer and dean of the Privy Council. First published between 1847 and 1859, Friends in Council presents a series of dialogues between fictional characters as a way of exploring various social and moral issues, from war to "pleasantness", government to the farmyard. Complete in two volumes. In calf prize bindings by Bickers & Son. Externally generally smart, with light rubbing in places and fading to spines. Presentation bookplate of Victoria College, Jersey to front pastedown. Ink inscription to verso of front free-endpaper in volume two. Internally firmly bound. Light spotting to first and last few pages. Pages are otherwise clean, although age-toned due to paper used. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # LTH30-C-9
