Reviews
PreSchool-Grade 2?A concept book that will allow emerging readers to enjoy a short and simple tale about a frog who can't play hide-and-seek because he can't count to ten. He begins as one lonely frog, rides away on a two-wheeled bicycle (is there any other kind?), and coast along for three miles, and so forth. An accident causes him to see eight doctors, receive nine bandages, and then get a bill for ten dollars. In recounting the events, Frog realizes that he can count to ten, and the next day he joins his friends in a game of hide-and-seek. Liebler's watercolor-and-pen illustrations add humor and interest to the otherwise predictable text. Particularly clever is the picture of frog's room, decorated in a numerical motif. The overall book design follows a standard page of text with an accompanying page of illustration and includes plenty of white space and an appealing and readable font size. This book will not win any literary or artistic awards, but it is a comfortable and pleasant selection for beginning readers.?Sharron McElmeel, Cedar Rapids Community Schools, IA
