George McDonald (chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 10–12, and 14) is a freelance journalist and travel writer, formerly based in Amsterdam and Brussels, who has written extensively for Frommer's guides. He is author of
Frommer's Belgium, Holland & Luxembourg and
Frommer's Amsterdam and coauthor of
Frommer's Europe and
Frommer's Europe by Rail. He lives with his German wife and his daughter in northern Germany, which he covered for this fi rst edition of Frommer's Germany Day by Day.
Donald Olson (chapters 1, 2, 5–9, 13, and 15) is a novelist, playwright, and travel writer. His travel stories have appeared in the New York Times, Travel + Leisure, Sunset, National Geographic, and other publications. His guides include Frommer's Vancouver & Victoria, Best Day Trips from London (as coauthor), England For Dummies (winner of the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Award for best guidebook), Germany For Dummies, London For Dummies, and Great Britain Day by Day (as coauthor).
His novels include The Confessions of Aubrey Beardsley and, under the pen name Swan Adamson, Memoirs Are Made of This, My Three Husbands, and Confessions of a Pregnant Princess. His play Beardsley was produced in London. His essay "Confessions of a Faux Pa" is featured in What I Would Tell Her: 28 Devoted Dads on Bringing Up, Holding On To and Letting Go of Their Daughters (2010).
