Frontiers in Geotechnical Engineering (Developments in Geotechnical Engineering)

This volume contains contributions by eminent researchers in the field of geotechnical engineering. The chapters of this book are based on the keynote and theme lectures delivered at the Indian Geotechnical Conference 2018, and discuss the recent issues and challenges, while providing perspective on the possible solutions and future directions. A strong emphasis is placed on proving connections between academic research and field practice, with many examples and case studies. Topics covered in this volume include contemporary infrastructural challenges, underground space utilization, sustainable construction, dealing with problematic soils and situations and geo-environmental issues including landfills. Madhavi Latha G. is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, India. She has completed her Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and has previously worked as a post-doctoral fellow and assistant professor at IISc and IIT Guwahati respectively. Professor Latha is a member of various professional bodies including IGS, ISSMGE and ISRM, and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Geotechnical Journal, and an Editorial board member in many reputed journals. Her research work looks at fundamental aspects of soil and ground reinforcement, and she has authored 70 journal articles, 4 book chapters and has developed a web-course on Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering on the NPTEL platform, sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.
