Gr 5 Up-Beginning with the revolving "Wheel of Features" on the cover, readers are entertained as well as instructed. A brief introduction explains what a cartoon artist does through a series of cartoon sketches. The remainder of the book is divided into two sections: instructions and activities. The first part demonstrates how to create a face from its shape to its features, expression, and accessories. The second part offers games and "doodle tricks" that build on the cartooning skills covered earlier. Lots of illustration and little narrative characterize this delightful "how-to" book. While the black-and-white illustrations are simple and easy to duplicate, Blitz encourages youngsters to mix and match facial features and drawing techniques to create original cartoons.
