He knows the pitfalls of going to the wilderness unprepared, both physically and emotionally, and it is the emotional that gear that concerns him here. Baird helps the reader identify and deal with differences in experience, competition, expectations, and motivations and tackles such issues as gender stereotyping, role imbalances, and communication styles. A problem in any one of these areas can result in strained relationships. Readers will learn interpersonal skills that will enable them to face the greatest outdoor challenge of all?getting along with others.
